Think Critically and Solve Problems
with Ann Pham, tutor
MSEd, Hunter College, 2002
tutoring and academic coaching since 2004
I incorporate students’ strengths and personal interests – along with empathy, fun, and curiosity – to help students become independent learners and problem-solvers.

Understanding Every Student’s Unique Strengths
As a tutor, I know that each student is unique, with their own set of strengths and interests. Recognizing each student is critical to creating a trustful learning experience. By focusing on students’ strengths and interests, they develop their confidence and foster a love for learning. Making the learning experience enjoyable also makes it more meaningful.
Incorporating Fun and Curiosity into Learning
Learning shouldn’t feel like a chore. That’s why I prioritize incorporating fun and curiosity into every session. I use puzzles, games and humor to correlate pattern recognition with learning, which encourages active participation and engagement. My goal is to spark curiosity and inspire independent thinking.
Empathy: The Heart of My Tutoring Approach
Empathy plays a significant role in my tutoring philosophy. I strive to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves. By understanding their challenges and emotions, I can tailor my approach to meet their specific needs. This connection not only enhances their learning but also cultivates problem-solving skills, making them more independent learners.
